Carol King Obituary

Carol King, the daughter of Walter Marcus and Lucille Evelyn (Scott) Crumbliss, was born October 16, 1938, at Lincoln, Nebraska. She departed this life on April 18, 2024, at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska.

Carol began her formal education attending school at Ravenna, Nebraska and graduated from the Scottsbluff High School. She continued at Wesleyan University in Lincoln where she earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology with minors in Philosophy and Religion. She was a member of the Willard Sorority. After college she went to work for the Camp Fire Girls in Scottsbluff as their Executive Director. After 2 plus years, she moved to Salem, Oregon where she was employed as District Director for all of Marion County. While living in Salem, she met James Albert King and they were united in marriage on December 23, 1965, at Scottsbluff. They eventually settled at Idaho Falls, Idaho where her husband was employed, and she owned and operated The Red Balloon Gift Shop. Following her husband, Jim’s, retirement from NCR in 12975, they opened CJ’s Arts & Crafts Store, which they later sold and retired to travel in their fifth-wheel camper. Her husband preceded her in death on December 16, 2007.

Carol moved to Green Valley, Arizona, a retirement town just south of Tucson. In June of 2020, she moved to Hastings, Nebraska to be near her brother, Bob Crumbliss and his family.

Surviving are her niece and nephew, Mary Hild and husband, Jim, and their children, Preston and Laci Hild; Scott and Paige Hild and great-great nephew, Whit Hild; Rob Crumbliss and wife, Dana; and their family, Makenzie Crumbliss, Connor Crumbliss, Mason Crumbliss, Kaelyn Crumbliss and Ella Crumbliss.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
