Brian Harvey Gibb was born August 24, 1963 at Banff, Scotland to Cherry (Harvey) Brown and Robert Gibb. In March of 2017, Brian was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. He had treatment for two and a half years at MD Anderson Cancer Center. On Labor Day he returned to the hospital with congestion and departed this life on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at CHI St. Luke’s Hospital in The Woodlands, Texas at the age of 56 years and 16 days.
Brian and his parents came to Nebraska in 1968, when he was four years old. He received his formal education attending the Hastings public schools and graduated with the class of 1981. Brian joined the United State Air Force straight from high school on the “buddy system” with two of his friends. After his discharge he continued to live and work in Texas the rest of his life. He enjoyed his work as a Alarm Technician and Sales working with both residential and commercial installations in a large area of Houston and the surrounding metropolitan area.
Brian and Shasta, his loved dog, made trips home yearly. He loved traveling to Colorado to be in the mountains. The last trip together with family was to the Black Hills of South Dakota. He enjoyed watching sports but his all-time favorite was the Houston Astros. He was seldom seen not wearing his Astro’s cap. Brian embraced and respected all of the diversity of the Houston area.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother and step-dad, Cherry and Roy Brown of Lebanon, Kansas; his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Amy Rose of Agra, Kansas; aunts, uncles and cousins in both Scotland and Australia, as well as numerous friends. Brian was preceded in death by his father, Robert Gibb, in 2005.
Graveside services were Wednesday, 10:30 AM, September 18, 2019 at the Red Cloud Cemetery with Pastor Jon Harvey officiating.
