Carol G. Shannon, the daughter of Clara (Jackson) and Gerald Horton, was born May 24, 1940 in Franklin County, Nebraska. She departed this life on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at the Franklin Care & Rehabilitation Center in Franklin, Nebraska at the age of 79 years, 1 month and 10 days.

A lifelong resident of the area, Carol received her formal education attending rural country schools and graduated from the Riverton High School with the class of 1957. Carol was united in marriage with Harold Lee “Short” Shannon on September 18, 1958 at Riverton. This union was blessed with three sons, Howard, Hal and Herbert. They made their home farming in the Riverton area. Carol was always very active in the community and drove the Riverton school bus for many years. In the early 1980’s she began her employment with the Webster County Community Hospital, working in the housekeeping department until her retirement.

Carol pursued a number of interests and activities in her spare time. In her younger years she enjoyed playing sports and especially softball. She was actively involved for years singing in a ladies trio around the area for many different occasions. Both she and Short were passionate sports fans, following their grandchildren’s activities as well as all of the Nebraska Huskers teams. In love for her family was immeasurable and she especially cherished the time they spent together. Carol’s personality was pervaded by her genuine kind, loving and positive spirit and she will be deeply missed.
