Doris was born in Webber, Kansas on her grandparents’ farm, to Clay Langer and Pearl Langer, nee Aherns. She often recounted stories of happy childhood times, most of which involved her sister Lois and horses. In March of 1946, Doris embarked on a life of travel, marrying her lifetime love, Dale Allen Vestal. To this union, two children were born: Delvin Gene in 1947 and DeeAnne Dawn in 1957. After, her husband’s retirement from the United States Air Force in 1976, Doris and Dale settled in Homestead, Florida, where Doris became a realtor. She was a loving, supportive mother to her two children and loving grandmother to her four grandsons: Christopher, Darrick, Shane and Dale. After a tragic accident in 1996, Doris became caretaker of her disabled son and continued to be so until his death in 2016. In 2010, she lost her husband Dale to Alzheimer’s. Then, in 2015, she and her son moved to Tennessee, with her daughter. There, she lived out the rest of her days, just as she had started her life, on a farm, surrounded by her pets and nature. In her last months, she resided in an ALF where she continually kept the staff and other residents entertained with her quick wit and humorous sarcasm. She is survived by her daughter and grandsons, all of whom will have an aching, empty void in their hearts from her passing; but who are thankful she was part of their lives for so long. Doris will be laid to rest, along with the ashes of her husband and son, on Monday 10:00 am, December 2, 2019 at the Fairview Cemetery near Webber, Kansas. Pastor Robert Hopkins will be officiating.
