Dr. James Craig Obituary

Dr. James Michael Craig, the son of Justina (Vana) and Theodore Craig, was born December 2, 1945 at Omaha, Nebraska. He departed this life surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at his home in Red Cloud, Nebraska at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 29, days.

Jim grew up in Omaha where he received his formal education attending grade school at Holy Name Catholic School and Holy Cross Catholic School. He graduated from Creighton Prep with the Class of 1964. Jim continued his studies at Creighton University where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree majoring in biology in 1967. He was accepted into medical school at UNMC where he earned his degree in 1971.  He entered into medical practice at Lewistown, Montana and in 1984, moved to Perryville, Missouri. Jim later practiced at Huron, South Dakota and then for the next sixteen years in North Dakota, serving the communities of Carrington, New Rockford and Harvey. In 2006, Jim and Anne moved to Red Cloud, Nebraska to make their home where he worked as a family physician with the Webster County Clinic and Hospital. From 2012 through 2018, Jim worked as a locum tenen physician in Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas. Dr. Craig also remained connected with Creighton where he was a consultant in the field of Naprotechnology since 1999.

Jim was united in marriage with Anne Hotop on May 2, 1992 at Carrington, North Dakota. After moving to the Red Cloud community, Dr. Craig was an active communicant of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served as an acolyte. He was the past president of the Legion of Mary and a member of the Lawrence Knights of Columbus. Additionally, he was a lifetime member of the NRA, he was a past Elks members and he was a member of the American Academy of Fertility Care Professionals.

Jim possessed an immeasurable love for his family and his Catholic faith. He was an avid Nebraska football fan, as well as the Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed guns and big game hunting, gardening, planting trees, reading and traveling with his wife, Anne. He was an accomplished cook and enjoyed preparing Czech meals for family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Anne Craig of Red Cloud, Nebraska; children: Richard Craig and wife Rhonda of Junction City, Kansas; Theresa Hawley and husband Paul of Omaha, Nebraska; Sean Craig, PA of Norfolk, Nebraska; Dr. Catherine Wright and husband Charles of Dover, Delaware; Theodore Craig and Carmen Andersen of Omaha, Nebraska; Aaron Heberlie and fiancé April McCann of Stanley, North Dakota and Adam Heberlie and wife Meghan of LaJunta, Colorado; 22 grandchildren; 2 great granddaughters; a sister, Joan Ames and husband Danny of Polk City, Florida; other relatives and friends.

The rosary will be recited Friday, 7:00 p.m., June 7, 2019 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Red Cloud.

The memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, 11:00 a.m., June 8, 2019 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Red Cloud with Fr. Paul Frank officiating.
