Florence Turner Obituary

Florence Zetta Turner, daughter of Zetta Cordelia (Perrill) and David Adolf Giger, was born June 16, 1919 on a farm north of Guide Rock, in rural Webster County, Nebraska. She died at her daughter’s home in Grand Island, Nebraska November 26, 2019 at the age of 100 years, 6 months and 9 days.

In February 1927, Florence moved with her family to a farm two miles north of Red Cloud, Nebraska. She received her elementary education in rural school District #75 and graduated from the Red Cloud High School with the class of 1937.

On October 30 1942 she was united in marriage with Richard James Turner. They made their home in Red Cloud. This union was blessed with two children, David (who died at birth) and Nancy Ann. Her primary interest always revolved around Nancy, her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was always there for them. Florence worked at the Gamble’s Store in Red Cloud for many years and was the leader of her daughter’s girl scout troop and 4-H club.

Florence was baptized in early childhood and was a member of the Congregational Church in Red Cloud. She taught Sunday school there for many years, touching many little ones’ lives.

She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by those who knew and loved her. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Richard; six brothers, Clarence, Elmer, Albert, George, Gordon and Ralph Giger; son, David and great granddaughter, Zetta.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughter, Nancy; grandchildren, James of Grand Island and Jessica of Red Cloud; great grandchildren, Lexus, Wyatt, Mason and Lylajames and great-great grandchildren, Mylez and Rielle; nieces nephews and other relatives.

Graveside services were Saturday, 2:00 PM, November 30, 2019 at the Red Cloud Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Bennett officiating.
