Janice Kay (Gibbs) Henry, the daughter of Dorotha (Buster) and Henry Gibbs was born October 3, 1937 near Esbon, Kansas. She departed this life on January 15, 2018 while staying at Heritage of Red Cloud in Red Cloud, Nebraska under their Hospice Program.
The second of three daughters, Janice lived on a farm in Jewel County, attended various country one-room country schools until she graduated from Esbon High School in 1955. She attended secretarial school in Denver, CO and met her future husband, Haywood Tallon Henry who was serving in the Air Force at Lowry Air Force Base. On October 6, 1956 they were united in marriage. They eventually moved to North Carolina and settled in Archdale for 38 years. Janice worked as a Bookkeeper and Office Manager, as well as providing love, structure and a safe home for their three children along with extended stays by Haywood’s nephews. They enjoyed visiting North Carolina beaches and spent many enjoyable days walking alongside the ocean as well as enjoying their two grandchildren. Later in life, Janice also enjoyed working with Brenda Gordon in Brenda’s restaurant. Janice will be remembered for her wonderful home cooking, her specialty cakes, her quilt making and needlework, her well-written letters to family and friends, her kindness and her selfless devotion to family.
On March 31, 2002 Haywood preceded her in death. Janice was a member of Union Chapel church while growing up, and then was a member of Springfield Friends Meeting in High Point, NC. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Red Cloud when she moved to Red Cloud in 2005.
Her parents and her husband preceded her in death. Those that will miss her are her children, Robert Henry of Laguna Woods, CA, Joyce Summers of Red Cloud, NE and Karen Henry of Roswell, GA; her sisters, Marilyn Pritts of Red Cloud, NE and Helen Jennings of Goodview, VA; grandchildren Anthony Hensley of Archdale, NC and Kate Henry of Garden Grove, CA; Robert’s spouse, Rona Smyth Henry; Kate’s fiancé, Matthew Daniels; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and the many friends that she treasured.
A memorial service was held Saturday, 11:00 a.m., February 17, 2018 in Red Cloud First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Warren Schoming officiating.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 27, 2018. Interment was at the Floral Garden Park Cemetery, High Point, North Carolina.
