Lena Reed Obituary

 

Lena C. (Gross) Reed, the daughter of Wendell and Grace (Rose) Gross was born July 30, 1925 southeast of Bladen, Nebraska. She departed this life on Sunday 13, 2019 at the Immanuel Fontenelle Home in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 94 years, 2 months and 14 days.

Lena received her formal education attending school at Riverton, Nebraska where she graduated with the class of 1943. She later attended 12 hours at Kearney College. Lena taught rural schools two years, was the Village Clerk / Treasurer in Glenvil, Nebraska for 19 ½ years and worked at Trans World Radio, New Jersey for 2 ½ years.

On March 10, 1945 she was united in marriage with Warren Reed at Smith Center, Kansas. This union was blessed with four sons. They continued to live in the Riverton and Inavale Nebraska area where Warren farmed. They lived for a short time in both Oregon and New Jersey, and in 1955, moved to Glenvil, Nebraska.

Lena belonged to the Double Dozen Club in Glenvil, Nebraska and the American Baptist Women in Glenvil and Hastings. She was a dedicated and faithful member of the First Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Warren, a son, Daniel; a great grand daughter Emry Reed; and one brother, Anthony Gross.

Left to treasure her memory are three sons, Rev. Ronald Reed and wife Chaplain Karyn Reed of Nampa, Idaho; Kenneth Reed and wife Marie of Nashville, Tennessee; and David Reed and wife Josie of Omaha, Nebraska; six grandchildren, Jonathan Reed of Chicago, Illinois; Joshua Reed and wife Carolyn of Alpharetta, Georgia; Benjamin Reed of Birmingham, Alabama; Timothy Reed and wife Chelsy of Iowa City, Iowa; Kyla Reed of Omaha, Nebraska and Nathan Reed of Omaha, Nebraska; and three great grandchild Addison Reed, and Wyatt Reed, of Alpharetta, Georgia and Elizabeth Reed, of Iowa City, Iowa.

Also surviving is one sister, Clara Tietjen of Red Cloud, Nebraska; and one sister-in-law, Elaine Wentworth of Omaha, Nebraska; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 18, 2019 from the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud, Nebraska with the Rev. Thomas Murray officiating. Interment will be in the Red Cloud Cemetery.
