Melvin J. “Willie” Williamson, the son of Alice (Myren) and Leonard Williamson, was born February 20, 1941 at Schleswig, Iowa. He departed this life on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Bryan-LGH East in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 8 days.
Willie received his formal education attending school at Denison, Iowa and graduated with the class of 1959. He then enlisted in the United States Navy on July 7, 1959 and served his country until his discharge from service on August 1, 1963. Willie began his career as a lineman with Northern Com working throughout the Midwest area.
He was united in marriage with Dorothy Curry on May 21, 1966 at Denison, Iowa. In 1970, they moved to Wisner, Nebraska where he worked for a brief time with the local telephone-cable company. They then moved to Hays Springs where Willie was employed as a repairman and central installer for the phone company. His next move was to Haxton, Colorado where he worked in the telephone company’s central office. In March of 1978, the family moved to Inavale where Willie continued his employment with the telephone company until his retirement in January of 2003.
His personality was pervaded by his outgoing and friendly demeanor. He was quick to laugh, tell a joke and was always there to help his friends and neighbors. You knew that when you engaged him in conversation, you would always benefit emotionally from the exchange. In his leisure time he enjoyed playing pool, hunting, fishing, magic tricks, square dancing and doing leather craft work. His love for his family was immeasurable and he especially cherished the time they spent together.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Delores Hennings and Marilyn Madison, and an infant brother, Myron.
