Patty Elaine Whitten, the daughter of Dora (Mallam) and Charles “Sonny” Pettit, was born July 27, 1954 at Superior, Nebraska. She departed this life, surrounded by her loving family, Monday, November 25, 2019 at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska at the age of 65 years, 3 months and 28 days.
Patty received her formal education attending rural Jewell county schools and graduated from the Burr Oak High School with the class of 1972. She was united in marriage with Dennis Leon Whitten on September 22, 1973 at Olive Hill Church in rural Jewell county. This union was blessed with five daughters, Angela, Lisa, Renae, Christina and Britany. They made their home faming northwest of Guide Rock in Webster county. Dennis passed away unexpectedly on December 18, 1996. Patty was employed by Slim and Roy Montgomery at their sale barns in Red Cloud and Mankato. She also worked for a time at the Plantation Restaurant and the Guide Rock Grocery Store. Most recently, Patty has worked at the CPI Premier Stop convenience store in Blue Hill, Nebraska.
Her personality was pervaded by a strong work ethic and an immeasurable love for her family. In her leisure time she enjoyed watching movies, playing cards, temping her luck at the casino’s and will also be lovingly remembered for her excellent caramel rolls.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Dennis; her parents, Dora and Sonny Pettit; a grandson, Danny Dickinson and son-in-law, Tyson Curd.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Angela Dickinson and husband Gerry of Wamego, Kansas; Lisa Curd of Blue Hill, Nebraska; Renae Whitten of Hastings, Nebraska; Christina Betterton and husband, Brandon of Hastings, Nebraska and Britany Sell and husband Mitch of Trumbull, Nebraska. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Nate Dickinson, Austin Curd and Natalee and Chloe Sell; her sister, Connie Duffy of Superior, Nebraska; other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, 10:30 AM, November 30, 2019 at the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud with Lonnie Whitten Jr. officiating. Interment was at the Guide Rock Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established by the family for later designation.
