Phyllis I (Bailey) Hartman

Phyllis Ione Hartman the daughter of Loren and Amy Hoins Bailey was born June 17, 1929 at Guide Rock, NE.  She departed this life on Friday, June 7, 2019 at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island, NE at the age of 89 years.

After graduation in 1947 from Guide Rock High School Phyllis taught at a country school until she was united in marriage to Carl Hartman Jr on June 4, 1949.  This union was blessed with the birth of two daughters: Kathleen and Janice.

Carl and Phyllis farmed many years together north of Guide Rock.  They raised chickens, cattle and pigs and farm ground.  In 1988 they sold their farm and moved to Blue Hill.  Their grandchildren have many fond memories of visiting their grandparents on the farm and the baby chicks.

After Carl's death in 1990 Phyllis filled her life with Bible studies, helping with the Good News Bears at church for 13 years and playing cards with numerous friends.  She spent numerous hours putting jigsaw puzzles together and working word searches.  She loved going to family events, reunions and just enjoying family time.

Phyllis will be remembered for her great fried chicken, chocolate chip cookies and rhubarb pie.  

Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Kathleen and husband Dwayne and numerous brother and sister's in laws.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Janice Jelinek and husband Don of Grand Island, NE; sisters Maxine Williams of Hebron, NE; Marian Ferebee and husband Jim of Nelson, NE; grandchildren: Jerad Jelinek and wife Chris of Lincoln, NE; Brian Jelinek and wife Krista of Waverly, NE; Jessica Turner and husband Shad of Geneva, NE; Wade McGinnis and wife Deb of Lincoln, NE; 17 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends.  Phyllis will be truly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday 10:30 AM June 13, 2019 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Blue Hill, NE.  Pastor Leah Krotz will be officiating.  Immediately following the services lunch will be served at the church after which burial will take place at the Guide Rock Cemetery, Guide Rock, NE. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 9 am to 8 pm with the family present to greet callers from 5 pm to 7 pm.  Condolences may be sent to the family at wmsfh.com.  Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud, NE is in charge of the arrangements.
