Phyllis Ruth (Hansen) Vasquez, 80, died September 6, 2018 at Guthrie, Oklahoma. She was born November 7, 1937 to Red and Maude Hansen at home in rural Webster County. She attended rural schools in Webster County through the third grade and finished her education in the Red Cloud Community Schools, where she graduated Valedictorian of her class in 1955.
She continued her formal education attending the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and graduated in 1959 with a Home Economist Degree. She stayed in Love Hall and made many friends while attending UNL. After college she tested recipes for a Gas Company in Pueblo, Colorado where she married Marciano (Rocky) Vasquez on June 25, 1962. This union was blessed with two children.
Her husband, Rocky, was in the United States Air Force and they lived many places. After his retirement from service they made their home in Seward, Nebraska, where she worked at the Seward Public Schools. In later years they bought a home in Mission, Texas, where they lived six months out of the year.
Phyllis was very active in 4-H, taking her sewing and baking projects to county fair and also showing calves that were raised on her dad’s farm. She was a member of the high school band, glee club and also was chosen to be a member of the trio.
Phyllis enjoyed sewing and knitting in her leisure time and especially spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, Rocky; son, Michael (Kate) Vasquez of Guthrie, Oklahoma and daughter, Linda; two grandchildren; one step-grandchild; a sister, Mae Koch of Spencer, Iowa and twin brother, Phil Hansen and wife, Marlene, of Red Cloud, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Velma Hansen of Dorchester, Nebraska, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, Elton Hansen and Wayne Hansen and brother-in-law, Richard Koch.
Graveside services were held September 15, 2018 at the Red Cloud Cemetery with the Rev. Warren Schoming officiating.
