Velma Albin Obituary

Velma Rose Albin, the daughter of Blanche (Price) and Ed Stutesman, was born November 18, 1917 at Long Island, Kansas. She departed this life on Monday, July 2, 2018 at Perkins Pavilion, Good Samaritan Village in Hastings at the age of 100 years, 7 months and 14 days.

Velma graduated from the Guide Rock High School with the class of 1936. She was united in marriage with Roger S. Albin on July 28, 1936 in Red Cloud, Nebraska.  Three children were born to Velma and Roger - Ruth Ellen, Roger Eugene and Robert Edwin.  They lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota for a short time and returned to the farm north of Guide Rock until the fall of 1970, when they moved to Kearney, Nebraska.  Velma attended LPN School and graduated in 1972, after which she worked at Mt. Carmel Nursing Home in Kearney.  Velma and Roger moved to Good Samaritan Village in 1976. They were honored in 1979, by the Knights of AR-SAR-BEN with the Pioneer Farm Award for having continued farm land in the same family for 100 years.

Velma was a former member of the Cowles United Methodist Church, Rebecca Lodge in Guide Rock, Eckley School Board, the Webster County Extension Clubs and Kiwanis in Hastings. In the late 1940's, Velma was instrumental in getting rural electricity and mail service by carrying petitions. She attended All Saints Chapel at Good Samaritan Village until her health prevented it.

Velma enjoyed doing ceramic work and made beautiful nativity sets for each of her children. She was very active in volunteer work and served on various boards at Good Samaritan Village and had been honored as volunteer of the year.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Roger, on December 11, 2004; her parents; a sister, Darcy Giger, and brothers Frank and Bill Stutesman.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Ruth Choquette and husband Dennis of Sun City Grand, Arizona; sons, Roger (Gene) Albin and wife Joyce of Maryland Heights, Missouri and Robert Albin and wife Marlene of rural Guide Rock, Nebraska. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren: Kent (Lori) Choquette, Darla (Wim) Kolk, Rodney (Anne) Albin, Chris (Lesley) Albin, Jody (Terry) Niles, Kelli (Bob) Conway; 12 great grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter, other relatives and many friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Children's Ark at GSV - Hastings.

Memorial services were Monday, 11:00 a.m., July 30, 2018 at the All Saints Chapel, Good Samaritan Village.
