Virgil Deisley Obituary

Virgil L. Deisley, the son of Lois (White) and Stephen Roy Deisley, was born May 1, 1943 at Sutherland, Nebraska. He departed this life on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the Webster County Community Hospital in Red Cloud, Nebraska at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 12 days.

Virgil , or Shorty as he was affectionately known by family and friends, received his formal education attending elementary school and high school in Inavale and Riverton. Virgil was well known at the Riverton high school as a very dominating football player. The proof came for the number of helmets that had to be replaced due to his aggressive play. After the completion of his formal education he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country from November 15, 1960 until his discharge from service on November 14, 1966. Virgil remained in California for a short time. The family then moved to the Inavale/Red Cloud area where he worked at various odd jobs.  He later moved to Grand Island, Nebraska and embarked on the profession that would consume his life. He trained thoroughbred horses for the race track. Additionally, he broke horses, trained horses, shoed horses and about anything else that had to do with the care of horses.

He was known for his toughness, as it took everything to get him down. If and when he was down, you knew he would be back up before a normal man would. His personality was pervaded by his sense of fairness and the kindness he displayed to others.

He was united in marriage with Evelyn Morningstar and this union included three children, Jennine, Jennifer and Steve.

Virgil possessed a number of interests in his spare time. He greatly enjoyed fishing with his family and watching western shows on television. His greatest love and enthusiasm in life was for his family and he especially enjoyed time spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Steve and Lois Deisley and two brothers, Roger and Doug Deisley.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Jennine Schneider and husband Richard of Red Cloud, Nebraska; Jennifer Cottrell and Jon Torgeson of Aurora, Colorado, and Steve Deisley and Sarah Becker of Wolbach, Nebraska; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brothers: Howard Deisley of Red Cloud and Leah Deisley; Larry Deisley of Inavale; Mike Deisley of Lincoln, Nebraska and Gale Deisley and wife, Linda, of LaSalle, Colorado; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were Friday, 10:30 a.m., October 19, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Warren Schoming officiating. Interment with military honors was at the Red Cloud Cemetery.

THE HORSESMAN'S MAN

His hands told the story
His heart said it all
The horses were strong
He was STRONGER
With fire in their hearts
There was pride in their stride
He loved life
Life LOVED him more
A wink and a twinkle
A smooch meant more
A friend to many
A COWBOY to all.
