Winifred Minnick Obituary

Winifred E. Minnick, the daughter of Agnes (Fuller) and George Kugler, was born February 22, 1926 in Franklin county, Nebraska. She departed this life on Friday, July 5, 2019 at the Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard, Nebraska at the age of 93 years, 4 months and 13 days.

Winifred was a lifelong resident of the Riverton-Inavale area. She attended rural country schools and graduated from the Riverton High School in 1946. She continued her formal education at McPherson College in Kansas where she earned her certificate in Normal Training. She then taught at the Fairview rural school.

She was united in marriage with Otto “Gerald” D. Minnick on June 1, 1948 at Red Cloud, Nebraska. They were blessed with nine children and raised their family on the farm in the Riverton-Inavale area. Winifred was a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She created an environment in their home that made lasting and cherished memories for all of her family and friends. She loved cooking, growing her flowers and listening to music. In her later years Winifred was an enthusiastic Bingo participant and loved the competition of playing her cards. She kept pace with many technological advances and was active with her Facebook page, keeping in touch with family and friends. She especially enjoyed following the activities and interests of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Gerald, on February 21, 2019; her son, Randy, on April 25, 2012; sister, Sharon Hedrick; brother, Gerald Kugler and an infant sister, Gwendolyn and son-in-law Stephen Disney.

Left to treasure her memory are eight children, 26 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren ….  Son Robert Minnick of Red Cloud: Cory, Cody (Shaelee and Kaelee), Katie and Kenny Barber (Nora). Daughter Gayla Disney of Harvard: Melisa and William Stewart, Machelle and Chris Catanese (Caleigh, Samantha and Kaitlyn), Stephanie and Solomon Rawlins (Tariek, Tacoya and Tayvion), Alicia (Jordyn Cheyney), James and Sara. Daughter Joy and Dick Chrisman of Franklin: Anthony and Shannon, Patrick and John Christopher Aragon; and Jeff. Daughter Sheila Minnick of Hastings: Mike and Sally Sigler (Lillian), Matt Sigler; Miranda and Jeremy Boutin (Gracie and Brieanna). Daughter Lisa and Bob Soflin of McCook: Dan and Casha O’Byrne (Christopher), Alanna O’Byrne, and Jamie O’Byrne. Son Rick Minnick of Inavale: Lynnsy, Alex, Tarissa, and Callie. Daughter Ila and Tom Chrisman of Harvard: Celina and Randy. Late son Randy Minnick’s children: Joey Minnick (Wyatt), Stacy and Adan Sanabia (Cloe Huryta), and Christopher. Son Ryan Minnick and Heather Cole of Red Cloud: Blaine and Adelynn.

Also surviving are sisters-in-law Colleene Minnick of Red Cloud; Elaine and Valdean Kershner of Hastings; and Martha Kugler of Riverton. Brother-in-law Gary and Donna Minnick of Hastings. Many step grandchildren and great-grandchildren, relatives and a host of friends.

Services were Thursday, 10:30 a.m., July 11, 2019 at the Evangelical Free Church in Franklin, Nebraska with the Rev. Bill Stearns officiating.  Interment was at the Riverton Cemetery.
