Alana Moorhead Obituary

Alana Fox Moorhead was born September 28, 1945 at Walla Walla, Washington, to Harold and Phoebe Fox of Prescott, Washington the younger sister of three-year-old Sam. She departed this life on Saturday August 29, 2020 at UNMC in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 74 years.

The Foxes lived in Prescott until the spring of 1951 when they moved to Havre, Montana. During that time Harold was baptized into Christ and decided to attend Bible college to pursue ministry.  It was also, during those years that Alana began her life-long love affair with Bible camp.

In September 1953, they moved to Norfolk, Nebraska where Harold attended Nebraska Christian College.  On September 25, 1955 Alana was baptized into Christ at the Park Avenue Christian Church.

In May of 1957 they moved to Ryegate, Montana, to start a new church work.  Alana attended junior high and high school there, graduating at the top of her high school class in 1963.  She attended Christian Service Camp every summer at Little Rockies Christian Camp at Landusky, Montana.

During the time that her parents lived in Malta, Montana, Alana attended Nebraska Christian College in Norfolk, Nebraska.  While there she met and married Wayne Moorhead, from Maywood, Nebraska.  Alana graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Christian Education in 1969, and the Moorhead’s moved to the Wayne, Nebraska area where Wayne attended and graduated from Wayne State College.

Wayne enlisted in the United States Army, eventually serving in Vietnam.  While he was overseas, Alana moved back to Malta, Montana with her parents.  During that time, the first of two daughters was born to them, Kristine Lynette.  Alana and Kristy also spent some time at Sitka, Alaska, where Wayne’s parents lived.

Wayne came home on Kristy’s first birthday, and they moved to Edgar, Nebraska where Wayne was employed at Sandy Creek Schools.

Brenda Kae joined the family two years later.  Both girls were educated, first at Sandy Creek, then at Nebraska Christian College and Wayne State College.  Kristy married Patric Jernigan in 1994 and Ian born a few years later, providing the only grandchild.  Brenda married Jason Kollbaum in 2002.

Alana worked in housekeeping at the Bethesda Care Center in Edgar for 12 years, leaving to go back to college at the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 1993.  During that time, she lived at the Christian Student Fellowship house and continued in her dedication to campus ministry through the rest of her life.

She taught at both the Aurora and Sandy Creek schools and worked as a speech coach.  She retired in 2009.

Since that time Alan has worked at home.  She knitted many baby afghans and gave them to new mothers. She led two Women’s Bible with AWANA, later ECKO.  Her love for camp continued.  She was “Mom” to many young people during the years from 1984 through 1996 at Pibel Bible Camp near Bartlet, Nebraska.  She also served as a sponsor for New Way Singers from Nebraska Christian College for five years. She continued her involvement with camp and campus ministries.

Alana loved her Lord and Master Jesus Christ, all the days of her life.  She tried to live that love in the eyes of God and in front of her family and community.  Her greatest joy was to see her children, including her grandson, with her in church, worshipping God together.

She is survived by her husband Wayne Moorhead of Edgar, Nebraska; daughters Kristy and Patric Jernigan of Omaha, Nebraska; Brenda and Jason Kollbaum of Moville, Iowa; her favorite grandson Ian Jernigan of Omaha, NE; brother Sam and wife Jackie Fox of Bakersfield, CA, nieces, nephews other relatives and her many friends.
