Athelda Thompson Obituary

Athelda Irma Thompson the daughter of Percy "Eustace" Bean and Alda Irma (Bruce) Bean was born February 19, 1922 on at farm near the Nebraska-Kansas State Line in Webster County and departed this life peacefully with family at her side on December 3, 2019 at the Kingswood Court in Superior, Nebraska.

Athelda received her formal education attending the District 41 rural school and the Red Cloud High school.  At just 17 years of age she secretly married her companion of the next 68 years, Robert W. Thompson in Osborne, KS.  This union was blessed with a son, Eldon and a daughter Gaylene. The couple made their first home close to Roberts’s parents in Northwest Jewell County, KS.  They eventually bought land within a 5 mile radius of this home, farming, raising livestock, including registered Herefords, and Athelda’s favorite orphan calf “Snooks”.  Eventually they retired from farming and moved to Superior, NE in 1993.

Athelda will be remembered most for her generous, care giving spirit.  Her greatest love in life was for her family. Besides cooking for her family and friends, she enjoyed gardening, tending to her flower beds, doing crossword puzzles, watching “Wheel of Fortune”, and reading her Bible. She enjoyed working on the election board in her precinct in Jewell County and was a member of the Highland Ladies Quilt Club.  She kept in touch with everyone in her family and enjoyed visiting with her many friends.  She was a faithful member of the Union Chapel Methodist Church in Jewell County, and the United Methodist Church of Superior and before moving to her apartment at Kingswood Court she had a near perfect attendance record.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Eustace and Irma Bean, brothers: Frank and Bruce, nephew Patrick Bean and loving husband Robert on October 21, 2007.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Eldon Thompson and wife Carole; daughter Gaylene Holland; six grandchildren: Christopher Thompson; Jonathan Thompson and special friend Joni Heiland; Sondra and Arthur Bailey; Marcia and Paul Stock; David and Jennifer Deichen; and Adonica Holland; 16 great grandchildren: Jasmine Thompson and special friend Tristan Stock; January Bailey; Thomas Bailey; Robert Bailey; Andrew and Falon Bailey; Joshua Stock; Levi Stock and fiancé Madison Lindsey; Cody Deichen; Kyle Deichen; Isaac Deichen; Abigail Deichen; Noah Deichen; Jacob Rutherford; Margaret and Darren Darby; Alex Rutherford and Tallulah Holland; step grandchildren: Harlee Chance and fiancé Ethan Woerner; and Jackson Chance; great-great grandchildren: Isabella Bailey; Lillian, Braylon and Cooper Bailey; Ella Stock, Jacob and Sophia Rutherford and Kane Darby; plus nieces, nephews other relatives, special friends Lu Braun, Trilby Weiss, Janet Harig, Dr. Blecha, all the special people at Kingswood Court and many other friends and neighbors.
