Avis Bostelman Obituary

Avis La Jeanne (Pingel) Bostelman born May 3, 1929 to Mildred (Kiskalt) and Edwin Pingel at their farm near Steele City, Nebraska. She entered eternal rest on July 27, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 90 years.

Avis was baptized June 1930 and confirmed in the Presbyterian Church May 28, 1944. On June 24, 1951 Avis was united in marriage to Dwayne Bostelman. This union was blessed with three children Jolene Lynette, Gregg Alan, and Bruce Lee. Avis became a confirmed member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Chester on December 9, 1951. Her confirmation verse was 2 Peter 3:18 “Grow in Grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ”.

Avis lived in Oceanside, California while Dwayne served in the U.S. Marines and the family moved to Superior in April 1954.  She became a member of Centennial Lutheran Church March 1956.

Avis loved teaching, growing up she attended country school and graduated from Steele City High School in May 1947 and in May 1949 from Fairbury Junior College. Avis’ teaching career included Chester Public School 1949 to 1952 and one year at Hardy.  While living in Superior she was a substitute teacher for many years and a Pre-School teacher at Christian Corner at Centennial Lutheran Church for 15 years. Her last 15 years of teaching were her most loved.

Avis was a gifted singer and a choir member in the churches where she resided.  Camping and being with family were a special part of her life.  Playing cards and spending time at the lake or the mountains were treasured time.  God’s gift to us all was this special person who shared His love with so many.

Avis was a member of Centennial LWML since 1957, a permanent member of American Legion Auxiliary, Retired Teacher’s Organization. She was a Volunteer in various groups.

She is survived by her husband Dwayne of 68 years, daughter Jolene Pohlman and husband Lonnie of Milford, son Bruce Bostelman and wife Jan of Brainard and daughter-in-law Joni Bostelman of Grand Island.  Grandchildren, Jill (Bargen) Diederichs and friend Brian Egger, Blake Bostelman and wife Claire, Lucas Bostelman, Micha Bostelman and wife Zana, Jennifer (Monroe) McVay and husband Kye, Leslie Bargen wife of Brent Bargen.  Greatgrandchildren Ashley (Bargen) Roes and husband Cody, Zachariah Bargen and wife Hannah, Jacob Bargen and friend Naomi, Taylon and Camden Diederichs, Evelyn Bostelman, Konnor and Jaxon McVay. Sister in Laws Bertha Pingel of Steele City, Gladys Meisinger and Ardith Warneke of Norfolk. Brother in Law Reverend Wallace Bostelman and wife Jackie of Mississippi

Many nieces and nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.

Preceded in Death by her parents, Aunt Fern and Ernest Lawrence of Diller. Brother Donald Pingel of Steele City.  Son Gregg Bostelman of Grand Island and grandson Brent Bargen of Lincoln.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday 2:00 pm, August 1, 2019 at the Centennial Lutheran Church in Superior, Nebraska.  Pastor Robert Hopkins will be officiating.  Burial will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery, Superior, Nebraska.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10 am to 7 pm with the family present to greet callers from 5 pm to 7 pm.  Condolences may be sent to the family at wmsfh.com.
