Clara Tietjen Obituary

Clara Doralene Tietjen, the daughter of Grace (Rose) and Wendell Gross, was born April 30, 1927 in Webster County near Campbell, Nebraska. She departed this life on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at the Webster County Community Hospital in Red Cloud, Nebraska at the age of 93 years, 1 month and 28 days.

A lifelong resident of the area, Clara received her formal education attending schools at Fairfield, Lawrence, Red Cloud, Riverton and graduated from the Inavale High School with the class of 1945.  She was united in marriage with George Edward Tietjen on April 4, 1947 at the Congregational Church in Riverton. This union was blessed with two children, Larry and Lana. They made their home farming north of Inavale and in 1960, they moved to their farm southeast of Red Cloud in the Garfield Township. In 2000, Clara and Ed moved into Red Cloud to live.

Clara was employed with Yost Market and later Yost Pack from 1965 until 1975. Later that year she began her twenty year career with the Webster County Assessor’s Office and retired in 1995, after having been elected to multiple terms as county assessor.

In her earlier years Clara dedicated her time and energy as a 4-H Leader where she had a positive impact and many children’s lives. She additionally made several trips to South Carolina where she volunteered her time with Lana’s 4-H kids. Clara was an accomplished baker and was known from her excellent cakes prepared for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and numerous other special events. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and gardening in her leisure time. A faithful and dedicated member of the Red Cloud Bible Church (Congregational Church), she served for fifteen years as the church secretary and cherished her time with the Women’s Fellowship Group. Clara will be fondly remembered for her immeasurable love for family and willingness to help her friends and neighbors.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Edward, on February 27, 2003’ a sister, Lena Reed, and brother, Anthony Gross.

Left to treasure her memory are her children, Larry Tietjen and wife Glenda of Red Cloud, Nebraska; daughter, Lana Tietjen of Red Cloud; two grandchildren, Grant Tietjen and wife Emily of Davenport, Iowa, and Jacqueline Klein and husband, Kyle, of Red Cloud; three great grandchildren, Aaron Keenan, Jalicia Tietjen and Abigail Reyes; other relatives and many friends.

Graveside services were 10:00 am, Thursday, July 2, 2020 at the Red Cloud Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Bennett officiating. 

Memorials are suggested to Asera Care Hospice.
