Daniel Garman Obituary

Daniel Loyde Garman, the son of Loyde and Vivian Maxine (Eakins) Garman, was born February 16, 1953, at Concordia, Kansas. He departed this life on February 7, 2023, at the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska ending a three month hospitalization as the result of a two vehicle accident.

A lifelong resident of Jewell County, Dan received his formal education attending the Burr Oak schools, graduating with the class of 1971. He continued his studies at Colby Community College where he earned his Associate’s Degree. Dan returned to the farm where he pursued his love and life’s work along side his father and his twin brother, Ken.

Dan was united in marriage with Vycke Winslow on January 16, 1982, at the Burr Oak Christian Church. This union was blessed with three children, Angela, Erin and Kevin. Dan was active through the years in numerous civic activities including the Jewell County Hospital Board, the Burr Oak Cemetery Board and the Soil Conservation Service. He was also a longtime member of the AOPA (Aircraft Owners & Pilot’s Association). Dan was an avid private pilot and had flown for almost 50 years.

He possessed a number of interests and activities he pursued including riding his Harley motorcycle and learning taekwondo - earning a second degree black belt. He enjoyed following both the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas State Wildcats. Dan was also an avid runner and participated in numerous marathons around the country including New York, San Antonio, Lincoln and Houston, Texas. Dan never experienced idle time, as he was always busy building or working on something around the farm or for his family. His love for his family was immeasurable, even while he was involved with them in a competitive game of pitch, which he seldom lost. His personality was pervaded by his genuine warmth and concern for everyone he knew.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Loyde and Maxine Garman; his twin brother, Ken; infant twin brothers, Wayne and Dwayne; and a brothers-in-law, Bob Parsons and Mark Remus.

Left to treasure his memory are his wife, Vycke; children, Erin Garman; Angela Smith and husband Dave and children Charlie and Eli, and Kevin Garman. Also surviving are his sisters, Sherry Parson and Linda Pahls; nieces, nephews, other relatives and his many friends.

Visitation with the family present will be Friday, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud.
Private family graveside services will be Saturday, 10:00 am at the Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak, Kansas.
Following the committal service friends are invited to join the family at the Burr Oak Community Center from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm for a time of refreshments and fellowship.
