David Holthaus Obituary

Following is a courtesy listing for Rose Holthaus and Family.....

David “Dave” Holthaus, 68, of Grand Island passed away on Friday, June 14, 2019.

Memorial service will be held Friday, June 21, 2019 at 10:30 am, at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island with a visitation for one hour prior to the service. Jeff Ord will officiate. Private inurnment will be held in Northern Kentucky. Visitation will be held an hour prior the service.

Dave was born November 26, 1950 in Franklin, Ohio, the son of Wallace and Elizabeth (Luebbers) Holthaus. He received his formal education in the northern Kentucky area, achieving a B.A. form Thomas More University in 1973. On June 6th, 1975, Dave was united in marriage with Rosemarie Heck. A passion for farming inspired by his uncle, Jim Kral, and cousin, Dale Krueger, led he and Rose to settle in Red Cloud and begin working for Vernon Krueger. It was in Red Cloud that this union was blessed with four children, Katherine, Alexander, Elizabeth and Robert.

Dave continued farming, and raising cattle and hogs until 1991. He then embarked on his automotive career, becoming service manager for John Phillips at Ely’s in Red Cloud. He went on to work at various dealerships, eventually retiring in 2011. During this time, he also enjoyed cutting down trees and clearing paths with Jerry McDole. He had his greatest joy helping Gene Boner and Jess Barnason with field and cattle work. Dave greatly enjoyed fall harvest work with the Ords, Jeff, Diana, Wendy and Judy.
In later years, he enjoyed working with Jim Connot of Chapman, NE. They built many facilities, fences and processed cattle.

Those left to treasure his memory include his wife, Rose Holthaus; children, Kate Lanza, Alex and Crystal Holthaus, Liz and Sean Kuttner, and Bob and Amber Holthaus. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Julia Lanza, Sean Lanza, Ray Holthaus, Saylor Holthaus, Cannon Holthaus, Lola Holthaus, Wyatt Boroff, Aubri Holthaus, Tony Holthaus, Harleigh Boroff and Hennessy Holthaus; father, Wallace Holthaus; aunt, Virginia Kral; other relatives and many good friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Morrison Cancer Center in Hastings.
