Diana Goebel Obituary

Diana Dale (Dilley) Goebel went home with Jesus on October 17, 2021 at the age of 86 years, 1 months and 13 days. She was born September 4, 1935 at Lebanon, Kansas to Thelma (Rice) and Orville Dilley. She received her formal education attending Cora country school and graduated from the Lebanon High School.  She was united in marriage with Junior Dean Goebel on February 8, 1955 and settled in Red Cloud to make their home.  After the Korean war and some time later, they were blessed with a daughter, Barbara Jean, and brought her home on Easter of 1966.

On February 3, 1974 Diana became a single parent with the death of her husband, Junior. She was a strong woman and a great role model for her daughter and others. She became a “mom” to many kids. In high school she worked at Flynn Super Market in Lebanon, Kansas. After her marriage she worked at the Lockhart Cafe (1957). Other jobs included the Red Cloud Post Office, when the Willa Cather Stamp came out; Red Cloud Sale Barn Cafe; the beginning of the Peanut Cream pies; Red Cloud School lunch room cook; Child care; Corral Cafe; Sugar & Spice Drive-In cook. She took care of two elderly persons and finally cleaned at the Food Mart meat department for several years. She then retired.

Diana volunteered for Meals on Wheels; taught Sunday School at Red Cloud Bible Church for 13 years, where she was a member. She was a Girl Scout leader and volunteer since 1975, and an Auxiliary member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars from 1965. She had Election Board duty for many years and was working there the day before giving birth to her daughter. Her greatest love was working outside gardening. She also enjoyed crafting, collecting things, crocheting and cooking. She didn’t enjoy sewing because she didn’t think she sewed as good as her mother and grandmothers. Yet some of her creations were clothes for her daughter, including a prom dress and majorette outfit.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Junior Goebel; parents Thelma and Orville Dilley; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fred and Mary Della (Henderson, Hughbanks) Goebel; her twin brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerold and Merold Dilley, Kay Weber and Roberta Hoschouer. Her in-laws, Albert Hughbanks, Bill Gaeble and Grace Goebel; Gerald (Gus) and Alice Greening, John and Twila Lamont; Glenn and Irene Roe; Cynthia, Frederick and Evelyn Goebel (died as children); George and Esther Hawes; Bill Hall; Tom and Shirley Goebel, Dick Goebel. Nieces and nephews: Richard Hall (Vietnam); Terry Goebel; Mary Kay Hock; Tom Lamont; Scott Dilley; Greg Dilley; Marla Dilley; a nephew-in-law, Melvin Lynstad and a great nephew, John Martinez, Jr.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Barbara Goebel of Red Cloud, Nebtraska; Aunts, Betty Voboril of Esbon, Kansas; Peggy Rice of Lebanon, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Jennie Goebel of Red Cloud and Nellie Dilley of Hastings, Nebraska; 30 nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews and cousins, along with her many friends and families.

Memorial services will be Thursday, 10:30 am, October 28, 2021 at the Red Cloud Bible Church with Pastor Gary Bennett officiating.
Interment will be at the Red Cloud Cemetery.
