Donald Lee Day, son of Eugene and Marie (Willy) Day, was born February 13, 1927, in Hebron, NE. He was one of four children. He was baptized June 13, 1945, at the Christian Church in Hebron. He departed this life October 13, 2021, at Thayer Co. Health Services in Hebron at the age of 94 years and 8 months.
Don grew up in Hebron, NE and graduated from Hebron High School in 1944.
Don was a WWII veteran. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on February 2, 1945, and was honorably discharged August 19, 1946. He was a member of the American Legion Post #180.
On September 3, 1946, Don married Phyllis Mumm at Belleville, KS. They made their home in Hebron, celebrating 75 years of marriage. They were blessed with four children, Katherine, Douglas, Judith, and Steven.
Don owned and operated Don Day Plumbing the majority of his life. He also was a clerk/carrier for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement. He continued to help others with plumbing issues after his retirement.
Don enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with friends and family.
Preceding Don in death are his beloved wife, Phyllis; his parents; one brother, Dean and wife, Wini Day; one sister, Arlene Corliss; sister-in-law, Betty and husband, Ray Icenogle; and son-in-law, Jerry Hudson.
Don is survived by four children, Kathy Hudson of Hebron, Doug & (Colleen) Day of Billings, MT, Judy & (Mike) Olsen of Lincoln, NE, and Steve & (Paula) Day of Hebron; seven grandchildren, Scott and Jennifer Day of Billings, MT, Kelly Clar & (Garrett Parker) of Hebron, Rebecca Arnold of Hebron, Curtis & (Machell) Day of Uvalde, TX, Nathan & (Kristen) Olsen of Lincoln, NE, Alyssa Olsen & (David Hower) of Central Point, OR; ten great-grandchildren, Carter & Harper Day, Chloe Clar & Clarabel Parker, Kaila & Autumn Barr, Haley, Addison, & Keegan Day, and Weston Olsen. He is also survived by one sister, Betty Hayes of Pasadena, CA, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Don was cremated. A family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Williams Funeral Home of Superior, NE was in charge of the arrangements.
