Duane J Schroeder, 84, passed away on Monday May 18, 2020 at his home in Ruskin, Nebraska. Born and raised in Wynot, Nebraska on April 13, 1936 to Ignatious (Iggy) and Ida (Pinkleman) Schroeder. Following graduation from Wynot High School, he enlisted in the Army from 1955-1958 serving a stent in Germany.
Upon returning to northeast Nebraska, Duane was united in marriage to Jolene Holcomb in 1959 and was blessed with two sons Lance L. Schroeder and Darin D Schroeder. Here, he began his over 30 year career with Nebraska Public Power District. This union later ended.
In 1982 he was united in marriage to Janice K. (Ulrich) Holcomb. This union was blessed with two daughters Kim R. Schroeder and Sara L. Schroeder as well as Janice’s daughters from a previous marriage, Pam and Kris Holcomb.
Duane enjoyed serving others by sponsoring many individuals through the Alcoholics Anonymous program. In his spare time he enjoyed being on the road attending auctions, flea markets, and camping as a member of the Triangle Camping Group. Friends and family who knew Duane, know that he was always on the go. “Gotta get to gettin’”
Duane is preceded in death by his parents, Ida and Iggy, wife Janice, sister Katherine, and granddaughter Karlie. Survived by siblings Laverne (Sandy) of Norfolk, Nebraska, JoAnn (Larry) Driver of Wynot, NE, Lucille Foster of South Sioux City, and Mark of Redding, California sister Darlene Olson of Viking, Minnesota. Children: Lance of Siloam Springs, AR. Darin Schroeder and friend Edith of Siloam Springs, Kim (Dustin) Schroeder of Grand Island, Sara (John) Mertens of Nelson, Pam (Mike) Bower of Nelson, Kris Holcomb of Nelson, survived also by 16 grandchildren, one great grandchild, as well as a host of family and friends.
Graveside services are planned for immediate family at Washington County Cemetery near Byron, NE on Saturday May 23rd at 11:00 am with family and friends meeting at The Acerage Steakhouse in Hubbell NE from 12pm to 2pm.
