Edna Niemeier passed away on March 14, 2021. Edna was long time resident of rural Webster County just outside Bladen, Nebraska. She was born to August and Sophie (f/k/a Schroeder) Wollenberg on June 6, 1929,as the third of six children. She was baptized on June 6, 1929 at the family home near Washington, Kansas by Pastor Klinger of Zion Lutheran Church, Hanover and confirmed into that church on April 19, 1943. She graduated from Hanover High School in the class of 1948. She attended summer sessions at Kansas State College and found work teaching rural school until her marriage to Adolph (Jim) Niemeier on July 8, 1951, also at Zion Lutheran which led them on a joint and almost inseparable path for over 60 years.
Edna and Jim began farming along the Little Blue River near Hanover, before moving to a farm just outside Bladen, Nebraska in 1962. Two children, James and Cathy, completed their family not long after their relocation. Edna and Jim stayed on the farm until age lead them to move Good Samaritan Village in Hastings in 2010. She was a dedicated wife, mother and farmer’s helper supporting not only her kids numerous school activities, but regularly delivering great meals to the combine, truck, or tractor as her family worked the farm. After her children left for college, she continued her life of service embarking on a 23-year career as a caregiver at the Blue Hill Care Center, caring for the nice “old people” while she was approaching 80 herself. She concluded her life’s final chapter in Omaha at Parsons House, a skilled nursing center to be nearer her children, where she passed peacefully in her sleep.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Ella Miller, Eleanor Sapp, and brother Ernie Wollenberg, and her husband, Jim.
She is survived by her son, James (Jonny) Niemeier of Omaha, daughter Cathy (Mike) Ringler of Omaha, grandchildren Jessica (Aaron) Beck, Michael Niemeier, and Deanna Ringler, sister Elaine (John) London, sister Elsie Shaw, sister-in-law Marjorie Wollenberg, other relatives and friends.
