Gary Covey Obituary

Gary W. Covey, 75, passed away Saturday, February 23rd, 2019 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born January 28th, 1944 to Pete and Pearl (Mathew) Covey of Oxford, Nebraska.

 Gary received his formal education attending the Oxford public schools and graduated with the class of 1962. Gary and Linda Burwell were united in marriage on January 24th, 1987 in Inavale, Nebraska. Gary was employed as a  truck driver.  A veteran of the United States Navy, Gary enlisted to service his country on March 17, 1964. He earned the rank of E-5 and following four years and four months of duty, he was discharged on July 16, 1968.  He was a 50-year member of the VFW. He was active with the Christian church service at Heatheridge Assisted Living. In his leisure time over the past 25 years, Gary pursued his hobby as a lapidarist- cutting, polishing and mounting precious stones into a variety of jewelry.  A number of family members were recipients of Gary's talented work. He loved his nieces and nephews and treasured to time they spent together, whether it was flying kites or just playing games.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Darrell and Gerald Covey; and sister, Naomi Covey.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Linda J. Burwell Covey; sister, Beverly (Joe) Noble; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Covey, Verdena Springer; brothers-in-law, Donald (Barb) Burwell, Lyle (Linda) Burwell; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services were Saturday, 11:00 a.m., March 2, 2019 at the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud with Lyle Burwell officiating.  Interment with military honors was at the Red Cloud Cemetery.
