Gary Mahin Obituary

Gary Lynn Mahin, the son of Ruth Louise (Sherman) and Franklin W. Mahin, was born June 11, 1944 at Smith Center, Kansas. He departed this life on Monday, December 7, 2020 at the Cherry Corner Estates in Red Cloud, Nebraska at the age of 76 years, 5 months and 26 days.

A lifelong resident of the area, Gary received his formal education attending the Bladen public schools where he excelled in athletics, playing on a state championship football team, basketball and track. He graduated with the class of 1962. Gary worked for a period of time at the Grand Island Ammunition Depot and at a local grain elevator.

He was united in marriage with Marcia Rogers on October 29, 1967 at the Wesleyan Church in Red Cloud. This union was blessed with three sons, Dennis, Monte and Todd. Gary attended Barber College in Omaha. They returned to the area living at Blue Hill and Guide Rock while in farmed with his father-in-law, Phil Rogers. In October of 1973, he purchased the barber shop in Red Cloud from Bill Hensman and also served as the local barber traveling to Guide Rock, Bladen, Campbell, Holstein and Franklin where he developed many lifelong friends. After raising their family, Gary and Marcia’s marriage ended in divorce. Following his professional career as a barber, Gary worked with Peterson Industries in Smith Center and then was employed as the night watchman with Gottsch Feedyard in Red Cloud. Gary was a member and attended the Revival Tabernacle Church in Red Cloud.

In his leisure time Gary enjoyed attending auctions and was an enthusiastic sports fan. He was happiest with a comb and scissors in his hands working and visiting with his customers and friends. His greatest appreciation and pride in life were his sons and grandchildren. Whenever possible his attended and supported their many activities.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Franklin and Ruth Mahin; infant siblings, Conley and Caroline; and his brother-in-law, Darrell Karr.

Holly, North Carolina, and Todd and wife, Lisa, of Red Cloud, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; his sister, Connie Karr of Hastings, Nebraska; other relatives and a host of friends.
