Gehrt Dickman Obituary

Gehrt Lynn Dickman, 69, son of Gehrt Thomas and Doris Mae (Probert) Dickman, passed away peacefully at his home in Hansen, Nebraska surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer.

Gehrt was born December 16, 1952, in Sargent, Nebraska and lived there until the fall of 1965. The family moved to Red Cloud, Nebraska where he graduated from Red Cloud High School in 1972. Following high school he worked at Dutton Lainson and Abbotts Dairy. He started his trucking career with Sibert Trucking of Red Cloud, NE and went on to haul for Jensby Livestock Trucking Inc, NSG Trucking, Justa Trucking, Dickman Transfer, then went out on his own and ran his own trucking company (Dickman Transportation), and worked for Gottsch Feed Yard a couple different times throughout the years. He has hauled everything from limestone to salt, grain, swinging meat, freight, corn, livestock and retired hauling fuel for Casey's in February 2022, logging over 6 million miles across the continental United States.

He married Paula (Johnson) October 18, 1972 and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year, although being together for 54 years. During their union they were blessed with three children. He loved spending time with his family that always resulted in unabstainable laughter and story telling. Sometimes he could barely get through his jokes/stories because he would crack himself up. These memories will forever bring smiles to all that were involved.

Gehrt's passion for cars was endless; from car shows to stock car races, and tinkering on and owning approximately 40 vehicles in his lifetime. He enjoyed speed, getting his hands dirty, and admired the shine and flake of the paint on a well kept vehicle. In his retirement he was looking forward to sitting outside watching the sunrise and set with his dog while drinking an ice cold Clamato beer, listening and feeling the light winds blow over the surrounding fields. He and Paula were best friends and he was a devoted husband, fun uncle, playful Papa, and the best Dad. A selfless man who never knew a stranger; he made a friend wherever he went. Gehrt was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings.

Gehrt is survived by is wife, Paula, daughters Misty (Greg) Hoffman of Polk, NE, Wyndi (Matt) Jurgena
of Hastings, and son Gehrt J. (Brooke) Dickman of Callaway, NE. Grandson's Tyler (Lindsay) Hoffman, Ryen, Brody, and Caden Dickman, granddaughters Katelyn (Michael) Adams, Ashlee Hoffman, and Juliona Jurgena, and great granddaughter Lily Adams. He is also survived by his mother, Doris Dickman, sisters Sue Mattison and Sally Dickman, and honorary family member Terri Palmberg.
