Gerald Minnick Obituary

Otto “Gerald” D.  Minnick, the son of Berneice (Gingrich) and Arlie Minnick, was born June 13, 1925 in Smith County, Kansas. He departed this life on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at his home northwest of Inavale, Nebraska at the age of 93 years, 8 months and 8 days.

Gerald was a lifelong resident of the area. He received his formal education attending rural Smith County schools.  A veteran of the United State Army, Gerald proudly served his country enlisting on November 14, 1944. Gerald fought in the European Theatre of Operations and was discharge from military duty at war’s end on August 11, 1946.

Gerald was united in marriage with Winifred Kugler on June 1, 1948 at Red Cloud, Nebraska.  They made their home farming and raising livestock in the Riverton-Inavale area.  This union was blessed with nine children. Gerald was also involved for many years doing custom harvest work. His love and passion in life was the farm and he was blessed to remain there and active as long as his health permitted.  His greatest enthusiasm in life was his immeasurable love for his family.  Gerald was a member of the Riverton Legion Post and he always looked forward to time spent enjoying coffee and visiting with his many friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his son, Randy, on April 25, 2012; and two brothers, Duane Minnick and Ralph and wife, Evelyn, Minnick.

Left to treasure his memory are his wife, Winifred; children: Robert Minnick of Red Cloud, Nebraska; Gayla Disney of Harvard, Nebraska; Joy Chrisman and husband, Dick, of Franklin, Nebraska; Sheila Minnick of Hastings, Nebraska; Lisa Soflin and husband, Bob, of McCook, Nebraska; Rick Minnick of Inavale; Ila Chrisman and husband, Tom, of Harvard, Nebraska; Ryan Minnick and Heather, of Red Cloud. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, a sister, Elaine Kershner and husband, Valdean, of Hastings, Nebraska, Gary Minnick and wife, Donna, of Hastings; a sister-in-law, Colleene Minnick of Red Cloud; other relatives and a host of friends.
