Geraldine Ann (Smith) Wright

Hastings, NE resident Geraldine Ann (Smith) Wright, 83, daughter of Orin Smith and Florence McLane Smith, passed away Sunday, January 26th, 2020, at Good Samaritan Village. Geraldine “Gerri” was born October 23rd, 1936 in Colchester, Connecticut. Shortly after she was born, her family moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she was raised until middle school.

Geraldine graduated high school in Lake Wales, Florida. Gerri was fortunate enough to be able to live in Taranto, Italy in the early 60’s, where she learned Italian as a second language and learned to cook authentic Italian food. She met her soul mate, Walter Wright, in Brush, CO. in 1985. In 1887, they moved to Las Vegas where she managed apartment complexes. Walt and Gerri retired to Superior, NE in 1999 and bought their first home.

The couples last move was in 2015 to Hastings, NE. In retirement, Gerri enjoyed cooking, especially Italian food. She loved her dog Brandy and to spend time with Walt. Her favorite TV show was “Survivor” and the neighbors would come over to watch with her and Walt every week. She also attended the United Methodist church in Superior weekly, while able. In Hastings, she attended religious services provided by the Villa Assisted Living and Perkins.

Gerri was preceded in death by Walter Wright and her parents Orin and Florence McLane Smith. Mrs. Wright  along with her husband Walter were cremated and memorial graaveside services will be held this Thursday 10:00 am, June 18, 2020 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Superior, NE.  Pastor Natalie Faust will be officiating.
