Glenn C. Ellis, most commonly known as “Jiggs”, was born October 10, 1924 in rural Dundy County to Samuel W. Ellis and Lola (Cook) Ellis. He departed this life February 5, 2022 at the age of 97 years, 3 months and 25 days at his home in Red Cloud, Nebraska surrounded by his family.
He received his education through the eighth grade in a one-room school house, District 36, in Dundy County. After completing the eighth grade he was compelled to get on a tractor and help his father farm. His philosophy in life was “to have friends, you needed to be a friend.” His goal in life was to farm until he was 75 and own his own farm. He attained both.
Jiggs had a very loving and giving heart, always ready to help someone in need. He was united in marriage with Betty Andres on December 14, 1947 at the Methodist Church in Benkelman, Nebraska. They celebrated 74 years together this past December in Red Cloud. This union was blessed with two children, Gloria and Stanley.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, four sisters, a granddaughter, his parents-in-law, and brothers and sisters-in-law.
Surviving are his wife of 74 years, Betty of Red Cloud, Nebraska; daughter, Gloria (Larry) Bastian of Grant, Nebraska; son, Stanley (Troi) of Red Cloud, Nebraska; grandchildren: Steven Bastian, Sylvia Bastian, Timbrel (Erik) Berg, Titus (Samantha) Ellis, Jonathan (Kellyn) Ellis, David (Nicole) Ellis, Isaac (Rose) Ellis, Timothy Ellis, Josiah Ellis, Esther Ellis and great grandchildren: LizBeth Ellis, Alex Berg, Andrew Berg, Aaron Berg, Avery Ellis and Ezekiel Ellis; other relatives and friends.
