Harrell Roe Obituary

Harrell James Roe entered rest on May 27, 2021.

Harrell was born July 11, 1955 to William (Bill) Roe and Shirley Konovalsky in El Paso, Texas, while Bill was completing his military service. In 1956 the young couple moved to the farm in Jewell County, Kansas, where Harrell would spend much of his life. He graduated from Republic High School in 1973, and then attended Kansas State University. Harrell was married to Megan Moret from 1977-1982 and Jan Jensik from 1983-2010. Jan and Harrell raised three children: Josh, Jenna and Janell.

Shortly after their marriage, Harrell and Jan moved to Fish Lake Valley, Nevada, where Harrell managed a large ranch. In 1987 Harrell returned home to the farm where he partnered with his dad. While farming, he worked closely alongside his Uncle Lauren Roe and cousin Keith Roe, as well as a host of friends and business associates in Republic and Jewell counties. As with many farmers and cattle ranchers, Harrell’s life was devoted to the ranch. He rarely left except for short trips to see family or friends.

Harrell thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. Jan and Harrell hosted many get togethers at their home and Lovewell Lake. You could usually find Harrell next to the grill or his smoker where he would frequently cook for social, family, community or church events. He always enjoyed being of service and feeding people. Harrell was known far and wide by his nickname “Skid”. His height was only overshadowed by his larger-than-life personality and booming voice. You never had to wonder where “Skid” was in a crowd. Even if you only met Harrell once, you were sure to have a story. However, most people were lucky enough to have enjoyed his company many times and the stories, while numerous, were always full of his humor and classic Skid sayings.

In 2015, Harrell met Pamela Carey and a strong bond was immediately formed. Harrell and Pam enjoyed time on the farm, church activities, spending time with friends, and the occasional, yet rare, trip to see family and friends.

Harrell was a life-long member of Republic Methodist Church where he held numerous volunteer roles and was active in the ministry and mission of the church until the very end.

Harrell is survived by his son Josh Roe (Adassa) and grandson Will Roe of Westmoreland, Kansas; daughter Jenna Roe of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; daughter Janell Roe (John Sawtelle) of Rowlett, Texas. His significant other, Pamela Carey of the home. His father Bill Roe (Verla) of Mankato, KS. His sister Becky Ost of Hardy, Nebraska. Niece Heather (Andrew) Wilbur of Concordia, Kansas, and nephew Brice Ost of West Palm Beach, Florida.

Harrell was proceeded in death by his mother, Shirley Roe, and brother-in-law Kirk Ost.
