Howard Wayne Andersen (61)

Passed away:  March 19, 2019, Red Cloud, NE.

Married: Teri Alder, August 14, 1992.

Howard spent his younger years in Smith Center Kansas, Riverton and Inavale Nebraska.   In 1976 he graduated from the Campbell High School in Campbell, Nebraska.
His fondest memories were those spent in Riverton with his friends where they spent many hours along the Thompson Creek and Republican River swimming, fishing, hunting and camping.  They called themselves the; “Riverton River-Rats”.  This is where Howard fell in love with the great outdoors.   He had many stories of those days, and he always spoke of them with great fondness.  He loved the wide open night sky, sitting out in the yard, gazing up into the stars. While living in Hastings, he mentioned the city just had too much light pollution.  His profound love for the quietness and beauty of the countryside moved him and his wife Teri, to Red Cloud. One of the first things he pointed out was that the sky was so perfect, the stars just stood out so clearly.

When Howard was in High School he went to work for a farmer, Mr. Milton Tupper.  Milton instilled a strong work ethic in Howard that followed him throughout his lifetime. Howard never did a job that was, “just good enough”.  If it didn’t suit his standards, he would make it right. If you go to the Webster’s Dictionary and look up the word, “perfectionist”, you’ll see Howard’s picture there, I’m certain of it.  
He worked for the J.M. McDonald’s Company, The Hastings Tribune, ADC-1, Chief Ethanol Fuels, AGP Corn, all in Hastings NE, and Corn Plus in Blue Earth MN, totaling about 20 years in ethanol. While working ethanol, his duties performed included; helping to build the plant, working in various parts of the operations in the plant, to shift manager and on to safety and compliance. He went onto having his own handy-man business for a time, then back to ethanol until retiring from it after having a heart attack.  Last winter, Howard went to Houston Texas to help Milton’s daughter Bridgette restore her home that was damaged due to the flooding down there. After getting back home, he then became one of Milton’s caretakers until just before Milton’s passing.
Howard was a Jack of all trades kind of guy. So much so, that when his step-daughter Haley was much younger, she had this thing she would do when mom wasn’t looking.  She would stand on the upright vacuum cleaner and use the handle as a microphone and sing.  Over time in doing so, she broke the handle form the machine. She just couldn’t understand why mom got so upset about this because, “Howard can fix everything”!
It is true, there wasn’t many things he couldn’t fix, but the vacuum was one of them. 

Survivors are: Howard’s wife Teri (Alder), His father - Clarence (Andy) Andersen, Mother – Della, Brothers - Jimmy, Edward, Ronnie, Sister – Deana Flint, Daughter- Kendra, Step-son – Justin Daniels, Step-daughter - Haley Daniels, and eight grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held Saturday, 11:00 a.m., March 23, 2019 at the Lifehouse Church in Hastings, Nebraska - Imperial Mall.
