James Sherwood Obituary

James Lewis Sherwood, the son of Dorothy “Dot” Jean (Ely) and John Sherwood, was born March 22, 1956 at Red Cloud, Nebraska. He departed this life on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at his home in Big Pine Key, Florida.

James received his formal education attending the Red Cloud schools and graduated with the class of 1974. He continued his studies at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. For the next thirteen years James was employed with GMAC Financing in Lincoln and Omaha. In 2017, he moved to his home in the Florida Keys.

In his leisure time James pursued a number of diverse interests and passions. He earned his private pilot’s certificate and was a lifelong aviation enthusiast. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and pursued numerous life adventures the past seventeen years with his companion, Tammy. They also enjoyed scuba diving and enjoying the scenery and ocean sunsets of their home.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Dot and John Sherwood.

Left to treasure his memory are his loving companion, Tammy Shaffer and family; daughter, Megan Meyer and husband, Josh, and children Luellen Woster, Logan Meyer and Lauren Meyer; daughter, Lindsey McClain and husband, John, and children Keoni, Kalani, Kona and Kaia; and son, Bobby Shaffer. Also surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Brad and Nancy Sherwood and family, Ryan and Laura Sherwood and children, Charlotte, Gus and Tommy; and Kristin and Chris Williams.

Services will be Wednesday, 10:30 am, September 15, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Dale Thiele officiating. Interment will be at the Red Cloud Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, 9:00 am - 7:00 pm at the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud and Wednesday, 8:00 am to service time at the church.
