Julia "Julie" Poulos Obituary

Julia “Julie” Poulos, age 77, left this world to be with the Lord on December 4, 2019, at The Villa Hospice in Mesa, Arizona.  Born on July 12, 1942, in Great Bend, Kansas, Julie was the eldest child and only daughter of Leo and Vesta “Betty” Deines.

In 1957, her family moved from Great Bend, Kansas, to Estherville, Iowa. She graduated from Estherville High School in 1960. Later that same year she married James D. Poulos, her high school sweetheart. The two were married for 59 years and have three children.

After the birth of their third child, they settled in Superior, Nebraska where Julie worked for many years at The Superior Express newspaper. She later worked as a nursing assistant at the Good Samaritan Center in Nelson, Nebraska, where she felt a calling to the nursing profession. At the age of 40, Julie went back to college to become a registered nurse and received her Associates Degree in Nursing from Cloud County Community College in Concordia, Kansas.

In 1985, Julie and Jim moved to Greeley, Colorado where she worked at Bonell Good Samaritan Center as a Nurse Manager until her retirement in 2007.

During her retirement, Julie and Jim enjoyed traveling throughout the country, either on their GoldWing motorcycle or in their RV. They also loved taking their grandchildren on numerous vacations.

Julie had a glorious singing voice and music was a valuable part of her life. She especially loved serving in church choirs and praising the Lord in song. She was honored to be a member of Daughters of the King, an order of the Episcopal Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents Leo and Betty Deines, and a brother, Richard Deines, all of whom she missed dearly and will rejoice in their magnificent reunion.

She leaves behind her husband of nearly 60 years, Jim, of Gilbert, Arizona; their three children, Jeff and his wife Lisa, of Gilbert; Jon of Longmont, Colorado; and Jackie and her husband Craig Ray, of Zurich, Switzerland. Survivors also include her brother, Jim and his wife Brenda Deines, of Wessington Springs, South Dakota; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Deines, West Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren, Brent Poulos, Courtney and her husband Adam Lusk, Stephanie and her husband Taylor Fehl, and Phillip Poulos; two great-grandchildren, Jasper and Myra, as well as many nieces and nephews, and several cousins.

A memorial service honoring Julie’s life is being held on January 25, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Spirit of Joy Lutheran/Resurrection Episcopal Church, 1159 N. Greenfield Road, Gilbert, Arizona.
