Obituary

Kenneth E. Lovejoy, the son of Jay and Clara (Lambrecht) Lovejoy, was born February 22, 1921, on the farm north of Inavale, Nebraska. He departed this life on Monday, March 20, 2023, at the Central Nebraska Veteran’s Home in Kearney, Nebraska at the age of 102 years and 28 days.

A lifelong resident of Webster county, Kenny received his formal education attending rural schools and graduated from the Bladen High School with the class of 1940. He was active in a number of activities as a youth, including playing football for his high school team.  A veteran of World War II, Kenny enlisted in the United States Navy to serve his country on April 7, 1945, and he was discharged at war’s end on August 27, 1946.

Kenny was united in marriage with Bonnie Duval at Grand Island, Nebraska and this union was blessed with four children, Earlene, Dave, Jerry and Roger. They made their home on the farm north of Inavale where Kenny pursued his life’s work and passion. He especially loved raising and caring for his Hereford cattle, and this was an interest and focus he maintained well into his 90’s until his health would no longer permit his daily trips to the farm. Kenny’s love for his family was immeasurable and he treasured the time they spent together. He was a longtime member of the Cowles Legion Post.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Lovejoy of Red Cloud, Nebraska; his children, Earlene Wulf of Central City, Nebraska; Dave Lovejoy of Inavale, Nebraska; and Jerry and Roger Lovejoy both of Hastings, Nebraska; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Thursday, 1:00 pm, March 23, 2023, at the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud with the Rev. Dan Benedict officiating.
Interment with military honors was at the New Virginia Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Webster County Youth Foundation.
