LaVaughn Simpson Obituary

LaVaughn Joyce Simpson, the daughter of Mabel (Carle) and Clifford Noble, was born January 22, 1933 in Smith County, Kansas. She departed this life on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at the Webster County Community Hospital in Red Cloud at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 27 days.

LaVaughn received her formal education attending the Red Cloud schools and graduated with the class of 1950, with a certificate in normal training. The following year she taught at rural school district 10 north of Red Cloud and then after moving to Denver, Colorado she was employed as a teletypist with the airlines.

She was united in marriage with Glenn Edward Simpson on December 22, 1951 at Red Cloud. They lived for a period of time in Idaho while Glenn was serving his country with the United States Air Force. For those two years in Idaho, LaVaughn returned to teaching. At the completion of Glenn’s military duty they returned to Red Cloud to make their home and raise their family. LaVaughn was employed for a time with JC Penny and the County Extension Office. In 1976, they purchased the Guide Rock Lumber Yard where LaVaughn was the bookkeeper until selling the business in 1990.  She worked for Tom and Linda Hitchler at the Palace for a number of years as a waitress and hostess. LaVaughn also was employed for over thirty years with Fountaine Microfilming in Red Cloud.

She was a member of the Congregational Red Cloud Bible Church and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. LaVaughn always possessed a strong work ethic and loved her community and many friendships. In her youth she enjoyed riding horses and following the marriage she and Glenn greatly enjoyed swing dancing to big band music. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and attending the coffee club listening to her group of lady friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Clifford and Mabel Noble; her husband, Glenn, on September 15, 2011; a brother, Roger Noble and infant daughter, Shauna Simpson.

Left to treasure her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Sheri and Kevin Ord of McCook, Nebraska; her son, Greg Simpson of Red Cloud; grandchildren: Gina (Matt) Owens of Clayton, Georgia; Sam (Krista) Ord of Oberlin, Kansas; Lindsey (Preston) DeVaughn of Omaha, Nebraska and Kyle (Miranda) Faber of Salina, Kansas; great grandchildren: Grant, Mallory, Landry, Maddox, Kinley and Cheyenne; her sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Carl Meline of Inavale, Nebraska; other relatives and many friends.
