Laverne Milton Lambrecht, the son of Ellen (Mattison) and Herbert Lambrecht, was born March 16, 1922 at Inavale, Nebraska. He departed this life on February 6, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Center in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 97 years, 10 months and 20 days.
A lifelong resident of the Red Cloud area, Laverne received his formal education attending the Red Cloud schools. He was united in marriage with Melvena McCarty on January 17, 1943 at Bermerton, Washington where Laverne was employed as a welder in the Puget Sound Navy Yard. A veteran of the United States Air Corp, he enlisted to service his country on March 10, 1944 and was discharged from service at war’s end on April 16, 1946.
Returning to Red Cloud, Laverne was employed for a period of time with the Red Cloud Post Office and later worked as a mechanic with Ely’s Automotive Dealership. He then owned and operated with his brother, Edgar, Lambrecht Brothers Plumbing & Heating.
In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing the Republican River and taking trip to Canada. He competed and won numerous trophies Go-Kart racing and was also a pilot and partner in flying airplanes with Gene Aubushon. Laverne and Melvena together traveled over four thousand miles on their Gold Wing motorcycle, taking trips around the country including the Rocky Mountains and Canada. For many years they were proud snowbirds, spending their winter months enjoying the warm weather in Phoenix, Arizona. Laverne will be fondly remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Melvena, on June 25, 2011; a brother, Edgar Lambrecht and two sisters, Norma Haller and Gerldine (Gerry) Schwartz.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Lanny and wife, Janice, of Craig, Colorado; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Memorial graveside services with military honors will be Saturday, 11:00 a.m., March 21, 2020 at the Red Cloud Cemetery with Rev. Gary Bennett officiating.
