Marlos Shipman Obituary

Marlos Rae Shipman was born February 9, 1943, in the basement of the family home southwest of Guide Rock.  She departed this life on September 30, 2020, at the age of 77.  She was the second of four children born to her parents, Edythe and Jake Shipman.

She had a normal childhood on the farm, and would sometimes trade her mom’s dill pickles to her cousins and friends for comic books.  Marlos attended school at rural District 10, the public schools of Guide Rock, Guide Rock High School.  She loved life and participated in all of the school activities.

She married Ron McNichols, from Guide Rock, and they had three children: Rhonda, Mark, and Bret.  They resided in Columbus, Nebraska, and later move to the suburbs of Denver, Colorado, where Marlos remained until her death.

She worked for a short time at Russell Stover, before landing her career of 25 plus years at the Coors Brewing Company. She wore many hats there, one of her favorites was being able to learn sign language to help the hearing impaired to seek employment with the company.  As the VICE/ADVICE coordinator, she organized many events including the Celebrity Golf Tournaments in Palm Springs, California.  While working at the brewery she had the opportunity to further her education and received her bachelor’s degree from Regis University.

After her divorce from Ron, Marlos married her high school crush, Richard Ely, Jr.  Their union was cut short after only seven years when Rich lost his battle to ALS.  Marlos would go on to marry for a third time.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Rhonda, a nephew, a niece and many other family and friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons Mark and wife Melissa in Buckeye, Arizona; and Bret and wife Vicki of Kansas City, Missouri.  Grandson Ryan and wife Carrie of Phoenix, Arizona; grandsons Dakota and Chase of Kansas City, Missouri; granddaughter Jessica and fiancé Luke of Montrose, Colorado; brother Jim and wife Jacque of Guide Rock, Nebraska; brother Denny of Hastings, Nebraska; and sister Jacque and husband Terry of Great Bend, Kansas.  She is also survived by many loving relatives and friends.

The graveside service to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at 3:30 pm in the Guide Rock Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to St. Jude’s Research Hospital or to the Guide Rock Cemetery Fund.
