Mason was born to Owen Lloyd “Pete” and Jeanette (Poppen) Senti on July 20, 1935 in rural Smith County, Kansas.  He graduated from Harlan High School at Harlan, Kansas in 1953.

On March 22, 1974 Mason was united in marriage to Marlene Kaye Sanders.  They farmed southeast of Bellaire, Kansas until Mason’s retirement and then moved to Smith Center, Kansas.  Because of his failing health they moved to Hastings, Nebraska to be closer to his doctors.

Mason was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Iris Oline; son, Craig Jay in 1967; niece, Kelli DeAnn Beitler in 1989; father-in-law, Harry Sanders; and mother-in-law, Doreen Sanders.
