Merlyn LeRoy Meyer, the son of Walter and Hildagard (Bartels) Meyer, was born March 25, 1943, at Campbell, Nebraska. He passed away October 5, 2023, at The Monarch in Lincoln, Nebraska following a long fought battle with multiple myeloma.
He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Campbell. Merlyn received his formal education attending rural district #48 in the country and graduated from the Campbell High School with the class of 1960. He enlisted in the Army Reserves to serve his country in 1961. He then attended Southeast Community College in Milford, graduating in 1964.
Merlyn was united in marriage with the love of his life, Hilda Jesske, on August 9, 1963. After being a carpenter for many years, Merlyn and Hilda moved back to the family farm near Campbell. Besides farming and ranching, he enjoyed raising registered Angus cattle, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Walter and Hildagard Meyer, father-in-law and mother-in-law Albert and Edna Jesske, brothers-in-law Howard Jesske, Wayne Guthrie and Daryl Lenstrom, and a sister-in-law, Joyce Lenstrom.
Left to treasure his memory are his wife of 60 years, Hilda; two sons, Scott Meyer and wife, Lori, and Shane Meyer and wife, Alison; six grandchildren: Maddy, McClain, Mallorie, Emersyn, Emily and Abigail Meyer. Also surviving are two sisters, LaDonna Jesske, Sandra Himmelberg; a brother-in-law, Wayne Himmelberg; sister-in-law, Janice Guthrie; nephews, Dr. Jay Jesske and wife, Tammy, Jud Jesske and wife, Kaye, Dr. Jeff Himmelberg, Todd Himmelberg, J.W. Himmelberg and wife Brittany, Tracy Guthrie and wife, Sharisse, Jerry Guthrie, Stuart Guthrie and wife, Tami, nieces Anita Petarek, Kathryn Lee, Amy Lenstrom and Jill Lyons, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were Tuesday, 10:00 am, October 10, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Campbell with Rev. Greg Volzke officiating. Interment with miliary honors was at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation, Trinity Lutheran Church or St. Jude Hospital.
