Margretha Ann “Mickey” Cahill, the daughter of Oakley and Grace (Gallentine) Hunt, was born August 22, 1932, at Neligh, Nebraska. She departed this life on October 10, 2023, at the Blue Hill Care Center in Blue Hill, Nebraska at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 18 days.
Mickey spent her early childhood years in Harvard, Nebraska and then moved to Franklin, Nebraska following the deaths of her parents to live with her sister and husband, Aileen and Harold Goedert. Mickey graduated from the Franklin High School with the class of 1950. Following the completion of her formal education she was employed for a time with Johnson-Cashway in Hastings and later with the Franklin Co-op. She was united in marriage with Berdon James Cahill on October 6, 1956, at Riverton. They made their home in the Riverton community where Mickey served as the Riverton Postmistress until her retirement. In the early 1990’s they moved to Red Cloud to make their home.
Mickey was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the ladies Altar Society. In her spare time she was an avid reader and always enjoyed her trips downtown to have coffee with her friends. A passionate and dedicated sports fan, she especially cherished the years they traveled to watch their grandchildren’s athletic activities.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Berdon, on January 3, 2022; two sisters and two brothers.
Left to treasure her memory are her son, Jeff Cahill and wife, Leanne, of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter, Michelle Pryor and husband, Randy of Lincoln, Nebraska; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
The Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, 10:30 am, October 16, 2023, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Red Cloud with Fr. Paul Frank officiating. Interment was at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Red Cloud.
