Norman Rose Obituary

Norman "Ike" Lee Rose, 80, of Blue Hill, Nebraska passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at the Blue Hill Care Center in Blue Hill, Nebraska.

Norman was born July 29, 1937, near Blue Hill, Nebraska to Dick and Norma (Degener) Rose.  He attended several country schools and Lawrence Public School, before attending and graduating from the Blue Hill Public School in 1955. He continued his formal education attending Telegrapher School in Hastings, Nebraska.  He had several jobs before returning to his passion for farming. He started out with Burlington Northern Railroad, then moved to Martin Plumbing, Harold Beahm Construction and then Don Roth Construction.

Norman's father became ill so he moved the family back to Blue Hill in 1965, and took over the farming operation. Besides farming, he took the time to build the family home himself. His greatest love was farming. He enjoyed growing crops and raising hogs and Angus cattle. He was a true Case International fan and would never drive a green tractor. The loss of his hand in a farm accident did not hinder or slow him down. He was active in farming until the Fall of 2017, when his health began to deteriorate but he still never lost his love of farming.

Norman and Donna Borwege of Bladen, Nebraska were united in marriage on February 1, 1959. This union was blessed with three children, Kathy (Rose) Mussman, Pam (Rose) Nuttleman and Jeff Rose.

He was a member of the Nebraska National Guard from 1959-1965. He later became very actively involved in the Cowles American Legion, serving as the treasurer from many years.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Donna, of Blue Hill; two daughters, Kathy (Andy) Mussman of Omaha, Nebraska; and Pam (Tim) Nuttleman of Seward, Nebraska; son, Jeff (Terri) Rose of Blue Hill; grandchildren: Tyler and Kelsey Mussman, Dylan and Austin Rose, and Riley and Jace Nuttleman.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held Monday, 10:30 a.m., April 2, 2018 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Blue Hill with Pastor Becky Mohling officiating. Interment with military honors will be at the Rosemont Presbyterian Cemetery at Rosemont.  Lunch and fellowship will follow at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Visitation will be held Friday and Saturday, 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud, and Sunday, 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. with the family present on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
