Phil Hansen Obituary

Phil Laverne Hansen, 83, passed away August 13, 2021 at the Webster County Community Hospital in Red Cloud. He was born November 7, 1937 to Ted and Maude (Duval) Hansen at the family home in rural Webster County. He was the second born to a set of twins and the youngest of five.

Phil was very active in 4-H, showing calves at the county fair that were raised on his dad’s farm. He was involved in the Jr. & Sr. Plays, football, he learned to play the cornet in 5th grade and when he was in 6th grade, he marched with the high school band at the Nebraska State Fair. He was in the school band and was involved with the Cornet Trio and Quartet, also participated in chorus. Phil was secretary of F.F.A., attended Ag Contest, he was on the Annual staff, Kearney Scholastic Contest and represented his school in History (he said that this was the only subject he excelled in over his sister, Phyllis), Sophomore class vice-president, Junior class treasurer and Senior class president.

After graduating high school, he went to the University of Nebraska for one years, then returned home to help his father on the family farm west of Red Cloud. On November 27, 1957 he was united in marriage with Marlene Grewell. This union was blessed with two children, Terry and Deb.

Phil spent his entire life living in the Webster County area farming and raising cattle. His love for cattle carried down to his children and grandchildren. He loved taking his grandchildren to numerous cattle shows which covered six states. Phil was one of the co-founders for the Webster County Feed Yard north of Red Cloud. He also was a co-founder and operator of the HKZ Silage crew.

After retiring he took up welding as a hobby, making many crafts for family and friends. He enjoyed attending county fair with two of his great granddaughters showing cattle. He traveled many miles to attend activities for the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Phil was part of the Jaycees and the Sheriff’s Posse. He was a long time and very active member of the Red Cloud United Methodist Church in many ways. He was a dedicated member of the Red Cloud Lions Club and served as a board member and president of the Coop in Red Cloud around thirty years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Elton and Wayne; sisters Mae and Phyllis; brothers-in-law, Richard and Marciano “Rocky”.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene; children and spouses, Terry and Dottie Hansen; Deb and Jack McGuire; grandchildren and spouses: Chris and Carol McGuire; TJ and Rachelle Hansen; Erin and Bruce Hohman and Tyler and Toni Hansen. Also surviving are great grandchildren: Reagan, Kinnley, Jackson, Layken, Grayson, Charlotte, Sienna, Logun, Mary, Bretlynn, Holden, Connor and Jacklynn; great step-grandchildren, Jake, Sydney and Morgan and five step great-great grandchildren; Emma, Maci, Paisley, Wyatt and Waylon; sisters-in-law, Velma Hansen and Rosalie Cline and many nieces, nephews and other family members.

Phil was a happy and creative individual. He will be missed by all.

Funeral services were Friday, 11:00 am, August 20, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Laura Fricker officiating.
Interment was at the Red Cloud Cemetery.
