Phyllis Greenhalgh Obituary

Phyllis Jean Greenhalgh, was born in the Garfield Precinct in Webster Count, Nebraska to Dean and Muriel (Tucker) Bartley on April 20, 1940. She departed this life on October 22, 2022, at the Heritage Care Center in Red Cloud, Nebraska.

She began her formal education attending a small country school called District 85 during her first and second years. Shortly after the beginning of her third years her family moved to a farm on Highway 281, just three miles south of Red cloud. She then went to school in Red Cloud and graduated with the class of 1958. Scholastically she was at the top of her class and shared valedictorian honors with another classmate.

Phyllis met Richard Greenhalgh in Red Cloud where she worked and they were united in marriage on August 24, 1958. She worked to help Richard get his college education in Kearney and Lincoln. Their son, Craig, was born in 1960, while they were in Lincoln, Nebraska. A daughter, Dee Ann, was born while in Arkansas in 1964, and she now resides in Jacksonville, Florida.

Phyllis started her studies to become an accountant and continued studying wherever they moved. Their careers took them from Nebraska to Arkansas to Missouri, Florida three times, Georgia two times and then back to Nebraska in 2017.  She earned her degree in Florida and passed the CPA exam the first time and was also certified to practice in Georgia. She opened her own accounting firm in Greensboro, Georgia. Not only did she serve her community with her business, but she supported the local area with her time and energy. She continued to work until Parkinson began to affect her health. She struggled with Parkinson for about two decades.

Phyllis loved to play games, cards and golf. She had a snake carry off one of her golf balls one time in Florida. Assuming the snake thought it was an egg, she graciously let the snake have it.  She especially enjoyed the Greenhalgh and Bartley family reunions and gatherings. In Georgia they spent considerable time on Lake Oconee and loved spending time with their church family they had at the Walker church near their home. Phyllis and her sisters enjoyed annual sister trips to different places for fifteen years.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her son, Craig, on February 28, 1978; a brother, Lyle; mother-in-law, Emma Greenhalgh; brother-in-law, Ron Greenhalgh and two nephews.

She will be missed by her husband, Richard; her daughter, DeeAnn; four sisters, Janet Maruhn, Valda Phelps, Marlene Zimmerman and Charlene Krueger and their families; sister-in-law, Carolyn Wright and her families and many other family members and friends she made along the way.

Services will be Friday, 11:00 am, October 28, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Dale Thiele officiating. Interment will be at the Guide Rock Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Wednesday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, Thursday, 9:00 am - 7:00 pm and Friday, 8:00 am to service time at the church.
