Robert Floyd Crawford, son of William Albert Floyd and Helen Christina (Smith) Crawford, was born October 15, 1936 in Dodge City, Kansas. He departed this life on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at the age of 80-years-old.
Bob graduated from Dodge City High School as part of the class of 1954. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Husbandry from Kansas State University in 1958, and received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from KSU in 1962.
He was united in marriage to Catherine Marie Schulteis on August 9, 1958 in Kansas City, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of three children; two daughters, and a son. They made their home in Manhattan, Kansas while Bob, “Doc,” was completing veterinary college. Doc Crawford practiced in Winner, South Dakota in 1962, and Hooper, Nebraska, in 1964. Doc then came to Red Cloud, Nebraska later in 1964, where he established his long term veterinary practice.
Doc was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Red Cloud, Nebraska, as well as the Red Cloud Golf Course, Southwest Kansas Royalties Owners Association, and was a founding partner of the Webster County Feed yard. Doc also wrote and published, “South Pass” a historical fiction which reflected his passion of early western immigration . In his spare time, he participated in horse and dog racing, was an avid sailboat enthusiast, played golf, made his own wine, and braided leather tack.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Catherine, who passed away on December 16, 2009.
Survivors include: his daughters, Christine Compton, and husband Bob in Overland Park, Kansas; Elizabeth Scheele, and husband, Brian, of Kearney, Nebraska; son William Crawford, and wife, Linda, of El Segundo, California; sister, Karen Stubbs, of Sacramento, California; grandchildren, Lauren Compton, Alexandra Compton, William Compton, Hannah Linn and husband Josh, and Carley Ohmstede, Heidi Palcher and husband Josh, as well as many other relatives, and a host of friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, 11:00 a.m., April 8, 2017, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Red Cloud, Nebraska with Pastor Chad Boggs officiating. Interment was in the Red Cloud Cemetery in Red Cloud, Nebraska.
Memorials may be given to the Zion Lutheran Church and/or Cherry Corner Estates, both located in Red Cloud, Nebraska. arrangements.
