Robert (Bob) Walter Crumbliss was born May 21, 1936, in Fayetteville, North Carolina to Walter and Lucille Crumbliss. Bob passed away February 17, 2023, at the Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard, Nebraska.
Bob graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1954 and from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1958 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and physics. Bob had the desire to join the Navy Air Reserves while still in high school. While attending Wesleyan he met the love of his life Mary Bohling Crumbliss. They were married in Clay Center, Nebraska surrounded by family on December 30, 1958. Bob and Mary then moved to Newport, Virginia so Bob could join the Officer Candidate School for the Navy Air in 1959. He was active duty from 1959-1962. After being discharged from the Navy, he and Mary moved to Edgar Nebraska. He taught at Edgar High School as a business/bookkeeping teacher. His true passion in life was being a farmer and started farming full time when the family farm needed the extra help. He loved the land and was a true steward and keeper of it. His most important work in his retirement years was attending all of his grandchildren’s events.
Bob was a very active member in the community including being an EMT and volunteer fireman for the Edgar Fire Department, Lions Club member, Masonic Lodge member, EMANON member, Presbyterian Church Board member, and a member of the Church of the Plains.
Bob is survived by his two children Mame (Jim) Hild of Edgar, NE; Rob (Dana) Crumbliss of Fairfield, NE; grandchildren Preston (Lacey) Hild; Scott (Paige) Hild; Makenzie Crumbliss, Connor Crumbliss, Mason Crumbliss, Kaelyn Littrell, Ella Crumbliss; great grandchild Whit Hild; sister Carol King of Hastings NE; sister-in-law; Nora Hinrichs of Lincoln NE; nephews and countless friends in the community.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Lucille Crumbliss; wife Mary Crumbliss; brother-in-laws Jim King and Hank Hinrichs.
Memorial services with military honors will be March 4, 2023, Saturday, 10:30 am, at the Church of the Plains in Edgar with Rev. Ethan Feistner officiating.
The family kindly request no flowers and a memorial fund has been established for later designation.
