Ronald Schriner Obituary

Ronald Dean Schriner, the son of Art and Ella (Scharff) Schriner, was born May 17, 1935, at Riverton, Nebraska. He departed this life on May 18, 2023, at the Heritage Care Center in Red Cloud, Nebraska at the age of 88 years.

A lifelong resident of the area, Ronald received his formal education attending rural schools in Franklin County at Spring Valley School. He was united in marriage with Irene “Ruby” Fair on May 17, 1960, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Red Cloud. Pumpy, as he was affectionately known by family and friends, worked for a number of farmers in the area including Bill Bach, Don Beezley and Dean Zalman. He drove a truck for a period of time for Wayne Sibert Trucking and then was employed for a number of years with Eldred Implement in Red Cloud. He later worked at the Cowles Elevator for Paul Stoner until his retirement.

Ron was the epitome of that person you knew that never sat to rest. His hobbies and interests were many and varied. He loved animals, especially his dogs and horses. He loved participating in trail rides and was a member of the Bladen Saddle Club. For a number of years his team participated in the Webster County Rodeo’s wild horse and cow races. Ron always enjoyed a game of pool and played for many years in the local pool league. His favorite past time activity was coyote hunting with Roger Deisley and their greyhound dogs. Ron’s love for the farm and the land was immeasurable and will be fondly remembered for his strong work ethic and willingness to help his neighbors and friends whenever called upon. None of these activities, however, ever diminished his love and concern for his family. He always cherished the time they spent together.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Irene; a daughter, Vickie Peterson and son-in-law, Rick Peterson; son-in-law, Clayton Kepler; brother, Bob Schriner; brothers-in-law, Bill Sheridan and Allen Jackson.

Left to treasure his memory are his children, Ginny Kepler of Bassett, Nebraska; Jody Schriner of Cowles, Nebraska; and Steve Schriner and wife, Dee, of Kearney, Nebraska. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sisters, Donitta Sheridan of Sutton, Nebraska; Leona “Bea” Jackson of Riverton, Nebraska; and Ardyce Eilert and husband, Carl, of Beloit, Kansas; a sister-in-law, Kaylene Schriner of Hastings, Nebraska; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were Wednesday, 10:30 am, May 24, 2023, at the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud with Jeff Ord officiating. Interment was at the Red Cloud Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established by the family for later designation.
