Tamara (Elliott) Gestring

Tamara (Tammy) Gestring, 74, passed away December 2, 2020, with her family by her side in Lincoln, Nebraska.  She was born in Red Cloud, Nebraska, on September 6, 1946, daughter of Winona Elliott and the late Jack Elliott.

Tammy grew up as many people do in small towns, involved in numerous activities. She shined as the Lead Drum Majorette for the Red Cloud High School band which led to a photo of her on the cover of Nebraskaland magazine.

She married Larry Gestring of Cowles, Nebraska on June 13,1964 and they made a great life together raising registered Angus cattle, corn, and children.  Together they enjoyed attending numerous sporting events and FFA or 4-H cattle shows as their children grew. That followed many visits to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus where she was proud to have all three of her children graduate.  She particularly enjoyed having fun with her kids and their friends at various Alpha Gamma Sigma fraternity or Alpha Phi sorority functions and Husker football games.

After Larry’s passing, she moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where she bravely embarked on a journey to find her way forward.  She was proudly employed as an Administrative Assistant by Lincoln Benefit Life, later Allstate Insurance, for 19 years.  While in Lincoln, she enjoyed making new friends and being active in the Parrot Head Club, a community service and social club.

After retiring, she returned to Red Cloud, Nebraska where she spent the remainder of her life enjoying family and friends.  She enjoyed traveling to visit her children and grandchildren.  As they relocated for work opportunities around the country, she was thrilled to join them in new adventures in exciting new places.  She was known to enjoy a sunny day by the pool, a walk along the ocean, or a glass or two of wine with friends and family.

She is predeceased by her loving husband Larry Gestring. Survived by her children Rick Gestring, Bob and (Laura) Gestring, (Scott) and Tara (Gestring) Keetle, grandchildren Trent Gestring, Maclain Gestring, Reese Keetle, and Hudson Keetle. As well as, her mother Winona Elliott, siblings Bill and (Karen) Elliott, Cheryl and (Dennis) Wilson, brother in law, Ron Gestring, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday 10:00 am, December 5, 2020 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Red Cloud, Nebraska with Fr. Paul Frank officiating.  Interment was at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Red Cloud.
