Velma Stratton Obituary

Velma D’Ette Stratton, the daughter of Nellie Mather (Werner) and Waldo Vaughn Lockhart, was born April 15, 1926 at Bladen, Nebraska. She departed this life on April 30, 2020 at the Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the age of 94 years and 15 days.

Velma received her formal education attending the Bladen schools and graduated with the class of 1943. Velma was employed as a linotype operator with the Blue Hill Leader newspaper and later worked with the Red Cloud Commercial Bank. She also was employed by the Santa Barbara National Bank while they were residing in California and then as a bookkeeper with Save On Drug Store in Santa Barbara.

Velma was united in marriage with Donald Gay Stratton on April 23, 1950 at Bladen. This union was blessed with children, Randy, Robert, Gypsy Dawn and Roxane Jo. Velma and Don were blessed with sixty-nine years of marriage together and traveled with world experiencing many treasured memories.

Following Don’s retirement as a commercial diver, they moved to Yuma, Arizona where they lived for about fifteen years. They moved back to California briefly and then settled in Colorado Springs where they were members of the Rocky Mountain Calvary Church.

Preceding Velma in death were her parents; her husband, Don, on February 15, 2020; daughters Gypsy Dawn and Roxane Jo; her son, Robert Stratton; great grandson, DJ; sisters, Arlene Karr and Maxine Copley, and brothers, Wendell and Lloyd Lockhart.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Randy Stratton and wife, Kathy, of Colorado Springs; grandchildren: Dana Stratton, Kimberly Brewer, Robert Stratton Jr. and wife Becky, Jessika Caldwell and husband Tony and Nicole Stratton. Also surviving are her great grandchildren: Nathan Hernandez, Jax Brewer, Robert Stratton, Kennedy Stratton, Emersyn Caldwell, Bryce Caldwell and Boden Caldwell. Velma’s immeasurable love for her family and her kind and gracious demeanor will be fondly remembered by everyone who knew her.

Memorials are suggested to the Saint Jude Children’s Hospital.

Graveside services were held Friday, 10:30 am, May 15, 2020 at the Red Cloud Cemetery with the Rev. Warren Schoming officiating.
